I’ve finally made a Chicken Tikka Masala
It’s been my most requested dish, but I’ve resisted – however, as a marketer, I know it’s important to give the people what they want, even if it’s not an authentic Indian dish, but a British variation on Indian cuisine. The legend/myth goes that a gentleman ordered a Chicken Tikka at an Indian restaurant in Glasgow, Scotland. When the beautiful tandoor roasted chicken arrived, he complained and said he wanted a ‘wet’ dish, rather than a dry one. The chicken tikka was sent back to the chef, who was asked to add a sauce to it. The chef popped open a can of Heinz Tomato Soup; covered the chicken with it; warmed it up, and sent it back out. The result was a hit! So much so, that Chicken Tikka Masala was thought of as Britain’s favourite dish (until recently, where the equally generic ‘Chinese Stir Fry’ took the title).
Anyway, irrespective of its origin or heritage, it’s still a lovely dish and I’m a little surprised by how much I liked it – So, here it is – Chicken Tikka Masala! Enjoy!
